Local Voice Media has worked with lots of schools – both primary and secondary – wanting to improve communication and engagement with their families. With so many parents now using Facebook (61% of Facebook users are between 25 and 54 – see here), it has proved an effective way of ensuring they are kept in the loop with school news and important information.

We have supported schools with setting up their accounts and ensuring that the page is protected from being misused by visitors … one of the biggest worries that schools have when joining social media.

One school we have worked with is Callicroft Primary School in Patchway. The school’s page quickly attracted ‘likes’ and has a become a go-to platform for parents seeking up to the minute news and information. Callicroft’s Facebook came into good use recently when the school was sadly affected by a fire … the school was able to use its page to communicate with parents in real time about the situation and then the progress it was making to repair the damage. The news was met with an overwhelming response from parents, many offering to support with the clean-up. The school has since organised a 24-hour dance-a-thon to raise money for the local fire service that helped save the school – all of which was publicised through its Facebook page.
